Set up in 1990 under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; since 2004 a centre of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM). It trains and certifies water sports operators.

How to apply

  1. Ask NIWS for the course by email, phone or post, and check you meet its eligibility.
  2. Download the course registration form, fill it in and send it electronically or by post.
  3. Your place is confirmed once you pay the course fee (bank draft or NEFT).
  4. A course runs only when at least 12 trainees have confirmed.

Rules to know

  • You must be a good swimmer for any water sports course.
  • Fees cover training only — boarding and lodging are extra.
  • Fees aren't refunded, but can be moved to a later course.
  • NIWS also runs frequent operator-licensing courses (Lifesaving Techniques – Watersports Operator, Powerboat Handling – Tiller); see its schedule.
